Simraceway Welcomes Allan McNish

by John on March 14, 2012

With Sebring only a few days away, we’re proud to announce that one of the world’s greatest endurance racers has signed up to the Simraceway team.

Double 24 Hours of Le Mans winner and three-time American Le Mans Series champion, Allan McNish is helping us perfect Simraceway’s sports car physics, adding his vast expertise and experience to a team that already contains fellow Scot Dario Franchitti and is still benefitting from Dan Wheldon’s awesome legacy.

There can’t be a better-placed driver in the world than McNish to nail the realism of cars like the one he’ll be driving at Sebring on Saturday, the awesome R18 TDI, and that’s something he got straight to work on upon joining up.

However, as well as helping us ensure we keep Simraceway’s in-car authenticity ahead of the field, Allan will also be playing a central role in our efforts to help out real-world drivers too.

Simraceway Receives $5m New Funding

by admin on February 10, 2012

Following the successful launches of our game public beta and groundbreaking SRW-S1 Steering Wheel, Simraceway’s creators, Ignite Game Technologies, were last week provided with an extra $5 million of funding, taking the total raised to date to $17.5 million.

This is great news for everyone associated with the project and we’re very grateful to our investors, both old and new, whose foresight and support have been instrumental in helping us bring our vision of reinventing the racing game to life.

However, we’d also like to thank you, our users, as without you Simraceway would just be a bunch of 000’s and 111’s sitting in a server somewhere. You bring Simraceway to life. Your racing, your support and, critically, your fervent feedback are making it one of the most welcoming and lively places to race online.

This weekend we announced the establishment of our new, real-world racing facility in partnership with the Jim Russell Racing Drivers School up at Infineon Raceway.

Widely regarded as the most advanced and prestigious operation of its kind, the driving school—which will now be called the Simraceway Performance Driving Center—will become the first to utilize a combination of online and real-world methods to train the next generation of racing talent. It will also play a vital role in helping our development team ensure that Simraceway remains the most authentic racing simulation on the market long after its launch in the fall of 2011.

As well as the issue of accurate skill matching, which we mused on earlier, another massive challenge to anyone looking to produce a truly top-notch online racing game is the ‘controller conundrum’.

You see, somewhere along the line we’ve somehow convinced ourselves (possibly with a little help from the console platforms) that it’s OK to use joypads for racing games—and the vast majority of users continue to do just that.

Well we’re here to tell you it’s not OK!

Simraceway Announces Dan Wheldon

by Jonathan Haswell on August 9, 2011

On the day that we officially introduced Simraceway to the world, it has also been our pleasure to announce Indianapolis 500 Champion Dan Wheldon as a key part of our talented development team. Not only will Dan be helping to ensure Simraceway’s total authenticity, he will also be racing online against the game’s other players when it’s launched in the fall of 2011.

We feel incredibly lucky to be partnering with such a gifted driver and, to celebrate, we’ve spliced together some footage of Dan—mainly from his recent 500 victory—which you can view above, or over at our VIMEO page.
